22 Nov Shake It Up, Beverley by Suzan Holder
A fab foray into one lonely heart’s Beatles’ fan’s search for love!

#Blogtour
Liverpudlian widow Beverley’s a life-long Beatles fan searching for a guy who looks like Paul McCartney, has the sensitivity of George Harrison, the humour of Ringo Starr and the wit of John Lennon.
Not a tall order then!
Her friend Jools encourages to join the Lonely Hearts dating website – with disastrous results, as Bev meets a series of unsuitable men.
Then along comes Scott, who seems to tick all the right boxes. He’s good looking, charismatic and a Beatles fan, too!
What could go possibly go wrong?
In a fun and fast-paced romp through the pages, we learn how Bev ended up in the situation where we first meet her, trapped in a house surrounded by vulture journalists all wanting her side of a story that she’s sure has made her a laughing stock the world over.
This is a fabulous rom-com which combines a laugh-out loud narrative with sensitive issues, as Beverley reflects on her early years and the loss of her beloved much older sister, Debs. All she has left of her is her Beatles memorabilia, which she stores in the attic of the house she owns – a house that once belonged to Paul McCartney himself!
Fans of the fab four will especially love the Beatles theme, as Bev takes us on a magical mystery tour of their environment, career and history, seen through her own fifty-odd years as a fan.
There are Beatles puns galore as Bev and Jools spark off each other in the way only good friends can.
But what really makes this book so good is the character of Bev herself. She’s had some hard knock in life, losing her sister, then her husband. Her dad is dead and her mum is in a care home.
This makes for moments of pathos and heartfelt emotion that help balance the zaniness of the plot.
But she has never lost her resilience and her zest for life, love and laughter.
She’s a wonderful woman I’d love to meet and call a friend, and deserves a happy-ever-after more than most.
All she needs is love, but there’s a long and winding road ahead – I’m so glad I got a ticket to ride it with her!
OK, I’ll stop now … But it’s a Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! from me.
